Since I was packaged out, I have found myself more engrossed in writing and exploring different elements that bring me joy. I have cleaned more, baked more, cooked more, written more, read more, and all around spent a lot of time puttering around the house. When I am trying to keep myself from becoming a couch potato, I have noticed that my most time consuming endeavors requires a lot of sedentary time. I realized, I had to come up with other ways to keep myself moving while still pouring into my joys. Dictation software has been quite enabling, as I can go about household chores while writing. There are challenges though, as when I am writing I have to focus in on the messaging. So I have found myself mid-chore while dictating a blog post or chapter of a book, and the need to focus has left me folding a single sock for twenty minutes. Currently, I am just using the built in Microsoft Word Dictation service, and it is robust but, there is a learning curve for both it and you.
When thinking about reading, I didn’t see a way I could do that. I love reading, love getting lost into a book and coming up for air when life’s bare necessities are requiring attention. In my exploration, I’ve stumbled upon a delightful new passion that I hadn’t explored before – audiobooks. Today, I want to share this journey with you and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find yourself enchanted by this world as much as I am.
Imagine this: You’re going about your day, doing your usual routines, but there’s a twist. In your ears, a voice weaves stories, opening doors to new worlds, introducing you to characters who feel like become part of your reality. This has been my experience since I discovered audiobooks.
I must confess, initially, I was skeptical. How could listening to a book compare to the joy of reading it? But, I was pleasantly surprised. Audiobooks have a unique charm. They bring stories to life in a way that is different yet almost as engaging as traditional reading. It’s like having a personal storyteller by your side, anytime, anywhere.
As someone who loves writing and storytelling, I’ve always believed in the power of a good book to transport you to other realms. Audiobooks have taken this to a new level. They allow me to ‘read’ while I’m cooking, working out, or even during my daily puttering. It’s multitasking in the most enjoyable way possible.
But there’s more to it. Audiobooks have also introduced me to genres and authors I might not have picked up otherwise. Listening to a bestseller thriller while sipping coffee in the morning, or a deep, insightful autobiography during a quiet evening has become my new routine. Each story, narrated with passion and emotion, has enriched my understanding and appreciation for diverse literary styles and themes. I have yet to listen to one where the narrator has been flat or annoying. However, I am sure that as I continue I may find this happening. When you read a book, its your voice in your head that narrates, or the voice your mind creates. With audiobooks it is whomever wrote the book, or whomever the publish chose to narrate it.
For my fellow aspiring writers out there, this is a treasure trove of learning. Hearing how words are pronounced, the pacing, the emotion – it’s a masterclass in storytelling. It has given me new perspectives and ideas for my own writing journey.
So, why am I sharing this? Because I believe in sharing things that add value to life. And if you’re someone who’s on the fence about audiobooks, I say give it a try. Who knows, you might find yourself in a new world of stories just like I did.
As a little nudge, I’ve included a link below where you can get your first month of audiobooks for free. Dive into this immersive experience and let me know your thoughts. Who knows, maybe your next favorite book is just a play button away.
Happy listening and exploring!
Warm regards,
Curtis
